He was born July 25, 1922, in Old Berlin, the son of Fred and Allie Buchanan Harlan. Bill married Annabelle Rogers; she preceded him in death in July 1999.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1985 after working for the Operating Engineers as a Lay Down Superintendent and was a member of Local 965.
He is survived by his son, Claude W. "Bill" Jr. (Carol) of Shipman; granddaughter, Christine Beck (Donnie) of Shipman; granddaughter-in-law, Karen Harlan; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Harlan, Alyx Beck and Andy Harlan; a brother; three sisters; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, William Harlan in 2000.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 N. Fifth St., Springfield, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
