Francis married Miss Hyla Vivian Fulmer in 1927 (actual date unknown) and the the young couple was epecting their first and, as it turned out, their only, child in 1928. Donald Francis Harrison was born on March 14th of that year.
In 1942 Francis was drafted for military service during WWII. He entered the United States Merchant Marines from Washington and was promoted to Master Sergeant prior to 1945. He served aboard the Merchant Vessel USS Edward Chambers in the Pacific Theater. The vessel was anchored in waters near the Philippine Islands in September 1945 when Francis suffered the affects of a ruptured appendix. He died aboard ship the next day, September 8, 1945. (His birthday was September 7th, the day before his death on September 8th.) He was 37 years old. At some later point, his body was taken ashore and he was buried in the Manila American Cemetery at Fort William McKinley.
