Sammie, the youngest daughter of Sam and Mary Haught, was born in Breckenridge, Texas on April 5, 1933. She attended schools in Longview, Texas and attended Kilgore Junior College (TX). Sammie married the love of her life, W.H. "Bill" Arant of Longview, TX, on December 4, 1952 in Longview. Sammie and Bill were happily married for 52 years prior to Bill's passing in 2004. Sammie was a life-long homemaker. She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. Nothing was more important to Sammie than the love and care of her husband and family. She lived in numerous places with her family over the years. Sammie's first family home was in Midland, Texas following her marriage to Bill in 1952. Later stops included Garland, Texas; Plano, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; Friendswood, Texas; and Jasper. Sammie enjoyed singing from a young age. She often sang in church, accompanied by her brother, Mike, on the piano. Sammie would often sing while was doing housework or caring for her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. Sammie also enjoyed gardening; and traveling with Bill to the Texas Gulf Coast, Texas state parks, and area lakes to enjoy fishing and the outdoors in their recreational vehicle.
Survivors include son, Samuel Arant and wife Teresa of Austin, Texas; daughter, Deborah Stanley and husband Louis of Jasper; son, Charles Arant of Pearland, Texas; granddaughter, Anne Gomez of Alvin, Texas; granddaughter, April Parker of Jasper; grandson, Matthew Arant of Austin, TX; five great-grandchildren; niece, Pat Burks of Longview, Texas; and nephew, Bud Mahaffey of Longview, Texas.
Sammie was predeceased by husband, Bill Arant; brother, Jack Haught of East Point, Georgia; sister, Ada Mahaffey of Longview, Texas; and brother, Mike Haught of Houston, Texas. A private memorial service was conducted at the Arant residence in Jasper.
