Anna Turkalo Herres passed peacefully on Nov. 15, 2014 in Sykesville, Maryland. She was 95 years old.
She was the wife of the late Schuyler Herres. She was born in Taunton, a daughter of the late Wasyl and Tecyanna Turkalo.
Anna was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister. Mrs. Herres is survived by 3 step-children and 5 nephews and nieces.
She was raised in East Taunton and educated in Taunton Public Schools, graduating from Taunton High School in 1937.
Anna earned her degree in biology from Boston University in 1941, became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and earned a masters degree in Russian studies and language from the State University of New York at Albany in 1972.
She worked at the Watertown Arsenal and then for General Electric Laboratories in Schenectady, New York for many years as a metallurgist and electron microscopist.
She also performed Russian translation while at G.E.
Anna was made a life member of the American Society for Metals in 1986.
A private burial of her cremains will be in the spring of 2015.
