Constance Rose (Coni) Burke passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at her home in Pomeroy from choking on food. She was 47.

She was born Jan. 23, 1957, in Pomeroy to Leonard and Agnes Waldher Herres. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Pomeroy for six years then Pomeroy Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating in 1975. Coni moved to Tacoma and attended college in Steilacoom for one year. She then moved to Seattle and worked as a waitress for a year at Cindy's House of Pancakes. Coni moved to Spokane to continue her education, earning a degree in horticulture.

Coni and Douglas J. Burke were married Sept. 20, 1979, in Spokane. She worked at Password until 1983. The couple moved back to Pomeroy and she worked for about 11 years as a secretary and bookkeeper at the family business, Pomeroy Warehouse and Feed. From 1998 to 2002 Coni worked in the laundry at Garfield County Hospital. She was injured at work in March 2002 and after neck surgery later that year she went back to college at Walla Walla Community College, Clarkston Center, for retraining. She remained a homemaker until her death.

Coni was a Catholic and a member of the Pomeroy Eagles Auxiliary. She loved to travel with her family and ride the Harley with her husband, Doug. She loved to garden and listen to music.

Survivors include her husband, Doug at their home; three sons, Scott D. Burke and Michael L. Burke, both of Pomeroy, Cory J. Burke of Spokane; her mother, Agnes E. Herres of Pomeroy; four sisters, Rose M. Mahar of Seattle, Alice Appel of Colfax, Diane Sison of Olympia and Dorothy (Dort) Kelly of Pomeroy; two brothers, Bob Herres of Montana and Andrew Herres of Puyallup, Wash.; Jeremy S. Burke of Pomeroy and Samantha Burke of theTri-Cities.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Teresa Shervington.

Cremation will take place and the graveside service is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Garfield County Public Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Richardson-Brown Funeral Home in Pomeroy.
