Services for Cecil May Ewing Herschell, 76, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Herschell died Monday, March 6, 1995, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 10, 1918, in Lone Star, the daughter of Robert Morris and Gertrude Elizabeth Grammer Ewing.

Mrs. Herschell, a lifelong resident of Douglas County, was a homemaker. She volunteered at the Lawrence Senior Center as an instructor for the Quilters Group. She was a member and active with the First United Methodist Church and its Autumn Club. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge No. 4, Friendly Hands Bible Study, Clown Club, Sunflower Club and the Thursday Sewing Club, all in Lawrence.

She married Kenneth Clifford Herschell on July 23, 1937, in Lawrence. He survives at the home.

Other survivors include a son, Robert E. Herschell, Lawrence; two daughters, Louise A. Howard and Wanda E. Gaggero, both of Lawrence; a sister, Edith Needles, Alamo, Tex.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the Council on Aging in Lawrence, in care of the funeral home.
