Betty Higginbotham, 81, a life-long Grand Rapids resident, died on Dec. 23, 2007 at Grand Village and Lodge in Grand Rapids, MN.

She was born Elizabeth Maxine Billock in 1926 to Clarence and Josephine Billock, owners of Southside Grocery and 50 year employee of Blandin Paper Company. In 1947 she married Theodore Richard “Ted” Higginbotham. They owned and operated a local drive-in restaurant, “Ted’s Broaster” from 1957 to 1974. In 1949 they welcomed their only child, Richard John. Following Ted’s death in 1965 Betty operated “Ted’s Broaster” and after selling the enterprise, she was head cook at the Forest Lake Restaurant in Grand Rapids until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, considering the highlight to be a trip to the Vatican.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Joanne Billock.

She is survived by one son, Richard of Grand Rapids, MN; one sister, Beverly (Robert O.) Black of Grand Rapids, MN; one brother, Clarence “Sonny” Billock of Grand Rapids, MN; a grandson, Shawn (Sarah) Higginbotham of Brainerd, MN; one granddaughter, Samantha (Chad) LeSarge of Bovey, MN; three great-grandchildren, Christian and Lily Higginbotham and Mychal LeSarge.

Services: Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN. Rev. Fr. Jerry Weiss will officiate. Burial will be in Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MN.
