The daughter of George Schneider, Maria Ann Schneider Hoffmann was born in 1843 in Wuerttenburg in Germany. Her mother's maiden name was Schoberg. On board ship to America, she met her future husband, Leonhardt Hoffmann. They were married April 23, 1860. They had eight children: Apollonia Hoffmann Simon, Anna Maria Hoffmann Franz, Louis Hoffmann, George Hoffmann, John Hoffmann, Henry Hoffmann, Theresa Hoffmann, and Joseph Hoffmann. Maria died in 1907 at age 64 in Campbell County, Kentucky.
She was the first of four generations of mothers and daughters buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wilder, Campbell County.
DNA testing reveals Maria and her direct female descendents are of the clan of "Ursula" (mtDNA haplogroup U). Ursula lived about 45,000 years ago in what is now northern Greece near present-day Delphi. Ursula hunted with sophisticated stone tools. Her clan displaced the Neanderthal humans. Some of the earliest cave art was done by the clan of Ursula. About 11% of people of European ancestry are descended from Ursula.
