Barbara was born on February 11, 1947 in Charleston, SC to Fred Hofmann and Harriet Reid Masterton.
Barbara attended school in South Carolina and graduated from Charleston Southern University, which was formerly Baptist College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English.
Shortly after school, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she met and married the love of her life, Jerry Armes, on June 24, 1972. They have been residents of Macclenny for the past 40 years where they happily raised their 2 daughters.
Barbara attended Jacksonville University and also the University of North Florida to obtain her master’s degree in Special Education. She was a Special Education Teacher at Keller Intermediate School for many years where she enjoyed working with children and helping to further their education.
She was a longtime member at Immanuel Freewill Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Barbara was most passionate about her crafts. She enjoyed making seasonal crafts, especially wreaths, for each season. Most of all, Barbara was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Jerry Armes of Macclenny, FL; her daughters, Kristin (Wayne) Carr of Jacksonville, FL and Lisa (Floyd) Larry of Macclenny, FL; her father, Fred Hofmann of Charleston, SC; her mother, Harriet Masterton of Mount Dora, FL; her sister, Sheila (William) Gaither of Goose Creek, SC; and her grandchildren, Stephon and Brooklyn Larry and Aidra and Steven Carr.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00 am at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. Leroy Cutler officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
