Katharina Eva Hoffman (the spelling varied from German to English usage) was born on 30 March, 1851 near Stuttgart Germany. She married Johann Conrad "John" Albrecht on November 7, 1871. Katharina Eva had one brother, Leonard Hoffman living in South Dakota and a half or step brother living in Germany. She and her husband had buried two children in Germany (John August and Catharina Margaret) before they emigrated in 1886 with their seven surviving children. They landed at Castle Gardens (New York City) on May 29, 1886 and traveled to South Dakota where they homesteaded near her brother's farm. Their four youngest children were born in South Dakota. Katharina Eva gave birth to her 13th child (Eva Catharina) on 21 Sept 1893 and died the following day. Eva died a few days later. They had 13 children in all.
