Charlotte L. Asher, 101, formerly of St. Clair Shores, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in Garden City Hospital. She was born March 16, 1903, in St. Clair Shores.

Mrs. Asher, a retired homemaker, was involved in a band known as the Go-Go Grannies, a group of female musicians, in which she played accordion.

The Grannies performed at numerous events, with their career highlight playing before President George Bush in 1992 at the Ponchartrain Hotel in Detroit. The band, originally known as the Musical Players of St. Clair Shores, performed last July at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

One of 12 children, the former Charlotte Hofmann was active with local senior groups and the St. Clair Shores Sportsman Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and decorating cakes.

She was survived by her children, Donald (Rose) Maison and Ione (Paul) Hamm; step-children, Larry May, Betty Cusic, Marion Bowman, Marvin Asher, Pete Asher and Marjorie Campbell; sister, Mary (Lloyd) Kramer; brothers, Frederick (Ethel) Hofmann and Sydney Hofmann; sister-in-law, Adele Hofmann; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Louis Glory Maison; Maurice May; and Russell Asher.
