Helen Frances Austin, age 72, of Wapello died Wednesday morning, September 21, 1988 at Burlington Medical Center. She was born October 3, 1915 at Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of J. Frank and Carrie E. Francisco Holiday. She married Lloyd William Austin October 3, 1937 at Morning Sun, Iowa. He died February 2, 1981.

Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church, Morning Sun. She had attended the Morning Sun Schools and for many years worked as a custodian for National Research, Burlington, the Louisa County Courthouse, and the Wapello Nursing Home.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Patricia McElyea, Mesquite, Texas and Mary Helen Hummer, Lincoln, Nebraska; one son, Gary, Mesquite, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral service for Helen Austin was held Friday, September 23, 1988 at 2:00 p.m. at Dudeon-McCulley Funeral Home with the Rev. George Yetter officiating. Phyllis McCulley was the organist.

Honorary bearers were Carl Samuels and Stanley Shutt. Casket bearers included Harlan Hayes, Burton Samuels, Bob Brown, Jim Wukert, Tom Wykert and Brian Hayes. Flower attendants were Barb Hays, Annette Fields, and Mary Ann Brown.

Burial was in the Parsons Cemetery, rural Wapello.

The family met friends Thursday evening at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established for the benefit of the Leukemia Foundation.
