Mrs. Mary J. Holliday.
Mrs. Mary J. HOLLIDAY, 68, former resident of Topeka, died Sunday in Seattle, Wash., according to word received in Topeka.
She was born in Port Towsend, Wash., January 6, 1871, and came to Topeka, where she lived until 1922 when she moved to Seattle.
Surviving are her husband, David J. HOLLIDAY, of the home; one foster son, Ernest TAYLOR, Seattle; her mother, Mrs. E.L. NININGER; three sisters, Mrs. H.H. McNAIR and Mrs. C.W. CRUMM all of Topeka, and Mrs. Roscoe CASE, Tacoma, Wash.; three brothers, James C. NININGER, Lyndon; Andrew P. NININGER, Sacramento, Calif.; and Orie NININGER, Topeka.
The body will be brought to Topeka and services will be at 3;30 p.m. Friday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with interment in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
∼Daughter of Andrew Jackson Nininger and Elvira Jane (Maiden name may have been Lake).
The 1889 census in Kitsap County, Washington lists Mary as a 1/2 breed Indian.
Mary filed for divorce from George Redgate on Aug. 15, 1902 Topeka, Ks. (published in Topeka Capital Journal) on the grounds of Extreme Cruelty and it was final Dec. 23, 1902. Mary petitioned to return to her maiden name of Nininger. (Info courtsey of Mary Beth Janssen).
