James H. Hookom passed peacefully on to his Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 26th 2014 with his wife Carol and his three sons by his side. He was happy to have them all so very close as he left this earth.
Jim was born in Willmar, MN to Herman and Ruth (Thompson) Hookom and he was the 11th out of 12 children. Jim graduated from New London / Spicer High School then later spent four years in the US Marines. He went on to be an aircraft mechanic for 29 years retiring from Northwest airlines 2002. He then began to enjoy his retirement on Deer Lake in Deer River, MN. Throughout life he was a hardworking man, a hockey coach for many years, and later enjoyed fishing whether the fish were biting or not, he simply enjoyed taking in the beautiful outdoors. What he enjoyed most of his retirement was taking others out on the lake and sharing the experience with them.
Jim is survived by his wife Carol of nearly 48 years, his three sons: Derek and daughter-in-law Melissa Hookom, Dustin Hookom, and Douglas, grandchildren: Samuel and Claire Hookom. Also, Jim is survived by his sisters Shirley Jones, Gwen Fredeen, brother David Hookom (sister-in-law Judy), many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father Herman Hookom, mother Ruth Thompson, by his four brothers: Herman (Jr), Paul, Myron, Quinton, sisters: Ethel (Bobbie), Harriet, Sharon, and Regina (Reggie).
Jim will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
