Dorothy was born to Meada and Gilbert Coddington on April 21, 1918.
After graduating from beauty school in Minneapolis, Minn., She and her friend, Nell Johnson, opened up The Magic Mirror Beauty Shop in Austin. Years later, Dorothy opened her own beauty shop in her home. She was known for serving coffee and pastries to her customers each day.
In 1936, Dorothy met her husband, Harry Hook. They were engaged at Christmas in 1938, and married on Sept. 2, 1940 at the First Baptist Church in Austin. They attended First Baptist, and later Grace Baptist Church of Austin.
Dorothy loved to volunteer and to entertain. She was a PTA president at Sumner Elementary School. Dorothy always opened her house to family and friends. She and Harry hosted the family Christmas partys for relatives each year. Her friends will remember her for hosting fun Rook parties.
She is survived by her children David Hook, Pamela Mayfield, and Sue Deck, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, niece Lois Haugland, sister-in-law Toni Coddington, and many special nieces and nephews. Dorothy was looking forward to her seventh great-grandchild's birth in February.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Meada and Gilbert Coddington; brothers: Wayne, Bob, Chet, and Russ; sisters: Bea Elliott, and Mary Anderson.
Dorothy was assured that, in accepting Jesus as her Savior, when she died and left this body- she would have a home in heaven and an eternal body. 2 Corinthians 5:1. Her desire was that others would make this same personal decision to accept Jesus into their lives; to be assured of a future with Jesus Christ.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Gordon Larson officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday at Grace Baptist Church for one hour before the service.
