Irene B. (Howe) Bacon, 85, of Winter Street, died Tuesday at home. She was a braider for the Gavitt Wire & Cable Co. in Brookfield for 33 years and retired in 1982. Born in Worcester, she attended Commerce High School in Worcester. She was a longtime resident of West Brookfield. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and one of the original members of the Ladies Guild. Her husband, Gerald C. Bacon, died in 1974. She leaves two daughters, Barbara J. Smith and Margaret Kopec, both of West Brookfield; a brother, Raymond J. Howe Jr. of Wildwood, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family, with burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. There are no calling hours, and Varnum Funeral Home is in charge.
