We are deeply saddened to share the news of the loss of Elizabeth Wade Howell affectionately known as Mimi and Ms. Elizabeth. Elizabeth, the consummate Southern Lady,passed peacefully at her home in Mesa, Arizona with family and friends holding her hand in prayer. With Elizabeth during the past 3 years and at her side during the most difficult months was Jill Howell RN. Hospice Nurse, daughter in law, and Elizabeth's sons wife who ministered to Elizabeth and her family. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband James Henry Howell Sr. (Molly), her parents Mr. And Mrs William Wade, sisters Betty Hasty and Margaret Scott. Elizabeth is also preceded in death by Molly's Mother and Father, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Howell, Brothers Griffin Howell Sr., Harris Howell, Ralph Howell and sisters Lucille Wheeler and Chloe Jarrett. Elizabeth was so happy to speak every day to Molly's surviving sister Martha White. There was such a loving family bond between Martha and Elizabeth. Elizabeth has two surviving children, James H. Howell Jr. in Mesa Arizona and Mary Sue Lavery in Denver, Colorado. Mimi has 4 Grandchildren, Lisa Freebairn, Richard Wade, Susan Cornell, and Tommy Lavery. There are 8 Great Grandchildren, Joey, Reece, and Mac Freebairn, Harrison and Mitchell Wade, and Winston and Spencer Lavery, Alexis Patterson. Ms.Elizabeth's close friends for the last 3 years in Mesa, Az. were regular visitors. Betty and Gene Hamilton, Chris and Tony Consiglano, Pat and Vic Pryor, Martha and Joseph Jamison , Sherry, Father Rech'ard, Chaplain Jacqueline, Ruth Erdman, Nancy, Sonya and Shyam Collatur, Sharon and Jerry Quinlan, Tina and John Giacoma, and her loving Hospice friends, Autumn, Betty, Maria, Linda and Melinda. Elizabeth was a graduate of Cartersville High School and a graduate of Berry College majoring in Book Keeping and Accounting. She began her working career as a Book Keeper for Dr. Harvey Howell in Cartersville, Georgia. Elizabeth married Jim, Molly, Howell of Cartersville, Georgia. Elizabeth and Jim lived in Charleston, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia during their married life. Elizabeth was the first woman hired by the Army and Air Force Exchange as a Book Keeper and Accountant. She was an integral part of the Company's growth and expansion during the next 30 years and did receive numerous accolades and promotions before her retirement. Elizabeth continued her work life as the Accountant and soon after the Manager of the Cartersville Country Club. She was highly respected in her business roles and for her integrity , her never ending attention to details, her smile, her strong work ethic and her integrity. Elizabeth was an integral part of the Cartersville Business and Women's Club, attaining the office of President of the Club. Elizabeth was a member of the Cartersville Hospital Auxiliary with over 700 hours of volunteer work. Elizabeth was also a member of the Cartersville Garden Club. Elizabeth was an ardent traveler and was most at home with her children's families and especially the Grand Children and Great Grand Children. Europe, Hawaii and Canada were her life experiences. For her, to hear the Children called her Mimi, brought her so much laughter, smiles and a renewed love for each of them. She would thank God for the time she spent every day. Elizabeth and her husband Jim were baptized Catholic in 1952. Elizabeth's devotion to God and the reverence she paid to the Blessed Virgin Mary was her foundation. She did become a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Francis Church in Cartersville Georgia and practiced her love in her Faith every day of her life. Every day she read her Bible, read her daily hymns, and enjoyed her religious music with her favorites being the Happy Goodman Family and the Gaither Family. Owen Funeral Home, Carersville, GA.
