Julia Adelaide Howell, only child of Evan Park Howell, Jr. and the former Georgia Taylor Gaston, was born on the 21st of February 1911 in Atlanta, Georgia. Named for her paternal grandmother, Julia Adelaide [née Erwin] Howell; Adelaide had an older step-brother and step-sister who were from her mother's first marriage.

Adelaide attended local schools and was a graduate of Agnes Scott College with a degree in music. After making her debut into society at the Piedmont Driving Club, Adelaide became a soloist for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra in New York.

While living in New York, Adelaide met and married Paul Adams¹bandleader of the Paul Adams Orchestra. No known children were born to this union. Adelaide sang on concert stages around the country and with the Metropolitan Opera.

Adelaide Howell Adams departed her life on the 26th of February 1954 in her 43rd year of her age. She was laid to rest beside her father, who had preceded her 20 years earlier.

¹ Paul Adams was born Adam Henryk Pavlovski, of a Polish noble family; who emigrated to America at the time of the Russian revolution in 1918. He took the name Paul Adams, as his stage & musician name.
