Lillian was the 3rd child and eldest surviving daughter of Thomas Barksdale Huddleston and Mable Thompson Huddleston of Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama.

Lillian had 10 siblings. Lillian's family moved to Birmingham, Alabama when she was a teenager. Lillian joined her sisters in entering the workforce, becoming modern working women.

Lillian was introduced to John Robert Caldwell by her sister Dorothy. Lillian and John married on May 25, 1934 at Walker Memorial Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Lillian and John had one child.

Lillian was an active member of the Bon Amies Club, the Ace-Hi Bridge Club, the Pan-Athenas Club and the Circle Eleven Women's Missionary Society. Lillian suffered life long bouts of tonsillitis and a severe case ended her life. She is buried near her parents and brother T.B. and his wife.
