Velljean was a daughter of the late James Brennan Hudkins and Anna Margaret O'Dell Hudkins and was the last surviving member of her family. She was a homemaker, a 40 year member of Lewisburg, WV United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women and a member of Eastern Star. She was a former volunteer at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and an in-home caregiver to many elderly in the Lewisburg area.
