JOHN ALLEN HUGGHINS, age 86, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009. John is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 50 years Velma Kay, and brother, Billy Guy Hugghins. Survivors include his second wife: Marilyn; son: Johnny Hugghins and wife Glynis; daughters: Katy Reynolds and husband Kent, Jodie McMillan and husband Terry; grandchildren: Jerod Hugghins, Chad Hugghins, Natalie McMillan, Mitchell McMillan, Jonathan Reynolds, Melinda Reynolds Kirkpatrick and husband Steve, Mike Mitchell and wife Shay, Scott Mitchell, Kami Mitchell, Donald Mitchell and wife Gina, Megan Mitchell, Jayden Mitchell; brothers: Ernie Hugghins and wife Mildred Kay, Joe Hugghins and wife Beverly, Bob Hugghins and wife Dorothy; sister: Ann Vann, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. John proudly served his country with the US Navy Amphibious Force during WWII, and engaged in battle at Iwo Jima. Upon returning from WWII, he graduated from Baylor University Law School in 1948 and practiced law in Houston for 44 years. John was a long time member and Deacon of both First Baptist Church and Tallowood Baptist Church, serving a term as chairman at each church. He was a member and past President of Downtown Optimist Club, and served on the Board of Directors of Texas Baptist Children's Home in Round Rock. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and all round good friend to many. He loved God, his family, and his country, and the symbolism of the flag of the USA. Visitation will be 6:00 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 16th at Tallowood Baptist Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Dr. Houston, TX 77024.
