Leonard Hillary Hugghins was born October 28, 1897, in Texas, son of Elbert Edward Hugghins and Etta Eugenia Stallings.

In 1900, Leonard was age 2, and living with his father, age 26, and mother, age 23, in South Alto, Texas (Cherokee County). His father was a laborer in a saw mill and the record shows that Leonard's parents had given birth to two children, but that only one was still living. They subsequently had two more sons, Ira, and Eddie. Leonard's father died in May 1902 at the age of 28.

By 1910, the three Hugghins boys, Leonard, age 12, Ira, age 8, and Eddie, age 6, were living with their mother, Etta, age 30, and second husband Terrell Barton, age 24, a farmer. The record shows that Etta and Terrell had been married two years, and that Leonard and Ira were both working on the farm as laborers.

On September 12, 1917, Leonard registered for the draft for World War I. In about 1918, he married Lula Hannah Ann Seaton, daughter of Francis Marion Seaton and Zora Naomi Cook.

Leonard and Lula were ages 21 and 18, respectively, when they married and made their home in Jacksonville, Texas (Cherokee County).

In 1920, Leonard, age 22, and Lula, age 19, were living as boarders in the home of Adelia Nichols, a 44-year old widow, who owned Nichols Photography Studio in Jacksonville. Leonard worked there as a finisher and Lula as an assistant finisher. Also living in Mrs. Nichol's home and working at her photography studio was Leonard's little brother, Ed Hugghins, age 17, who worked as an assistant finisher.

Leonard and Lula ultimately would have four children: Frances Etta, Marjorie Naomi, Gordon Leonard, and Marian Adelia.

In 1930, Leonard, age 33, and Lula, age 30, were living in Jacksonville, with their daughters, Frances, age 10; and Marjorie, age 8. At that time, Leonard and Lula were still working in the Nichols photography studio and ultimately would inherit the studio from their former employer. Leonard and Lula never changed the name of the studio which was owned by the Hugghins family until Lula died in 1980. Leonard was a member and officer of the Masonic Lodge and Lula was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and past worthy matron of Jacksonville Chapter 377. Leonard and Lula both attended the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, where Lula served as a deaconess and was a member of the Golden Circle Class. Leonard also served on the Jacksonville school board for many years.

He died at age 56 in Beaumont, Texas (Jefferson County)and was buried in the Jacksonville City Cemetery. Lula died at age 79 at her home on February 11, 1980, in Jacksonville, and was buried beside Leonard.
