Jeanette Arlene Behrens, 77, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Golden Living Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Cairo. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Cairo.
Mrs. Behrens was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Hall County to Cecil and Evelyn (Walbrecht) Hulme.
Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and their spouses, Robert and Connie Behrens of Topeka, Kan., Douglas and Theresa Behrens of Overland Park, Kan., and Bryan and Vonda Behrens of Norwich, Kan.; a daughter, Kathleen Behrens of Osage City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Hulme of Cairo; a sister, Joyce Harb of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanette, the eldest of five children, was raised on the family farm south of Cairo and was a graduate of Cairo High School.
She married Gene Behrens in 1952 in Cairo.
After living in Oklahoma and Texas, the couple returned to Nebraska. In the late 1950s, they moved to Topeka, Kan., where Jeanette lived until 1987. That year she moved to Grand Island.
She was a talented seamstress who made many of her family's clothes. She was also a competent pianist, playing since her early days on the family farm and in church. She made many beautiful quilts, was accomplished at many handicrafts, and enjoyed making ceramics. She earned her private pilot's license in Topeka, Kan. in the early 1960s.
