Mrs. Artie (Opal M) Ives, 72, of Newton died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1983, in Richland Memorial hospital in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Buchanan funeral home with Rev. Carl Hall officiating. Burial will be in Mound cemetery, near Willow Hill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Friday evening at the funeral home with Order of Easter Star services at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Ives was born Dec. 15, 1910, near Willow Hill, a daughter of Perry and Gladys (Fear) Short. She married Artie Ives [note: Burl Ives' older brother]in 1929 in Newton, and he died in 1979. She was a member of Newton Chapter 497 Order of Easter Star.

Surviving are a son, Roger of Mattoon; daughter, Mrs. Donald (Loretta) Ives of El Paso, Tex; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Crouse and Mrs. Wanda Davidson, both of Newton, and Mrs. Norma Jean Schmidt of Olney; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, one daughter also preceded her in death.
