Helen Grace (nee) Jackson Bailey, 88, of West Melbourne, Fla. and Henrico, N.C., formerly of Bluefield, died Monday, January 7, 2008.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Princeton, the daughter of Wilbert Charles and Rhonda Brown Jackson. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1937. In 1940, she married Julian C. Bailey of Bluefield where she lived until 2002 when she relocated to be with her daughter, Judy, and son-in-law Tom Petty.

Mrs. Bailey retired after 33 years of service as the office manager of the Bluefield-based Appalachian Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to her Scouting career, she was a long-time member of the Bland Street United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and many other business and community organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Julian C. Bailey, in 1974.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Petty (Thomas) of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Betty C. Davis of Bluefield, Mary Jane Rorrer and Rhonda "Brownie" Williams both of Princeton; two brothers, Wilbert C. Jackson Jr. of Simi Valley, Calif. and William B. Jackson of Tampa, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Bland Street United Methodist Church, 2620 Bland Rd., Bluefield with the Rev. David Hall officiating. Interment will be at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Bluefield. Friends may call Saturday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. is serving the Bailey family.
