OBITUARY

Mrs. Josephine Jacobs Arata – born in Streator, IL on January 26, 1912, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at the age of 98. Mrs. Arata was a member of numerous religious organizations, the Lebanese American Club of Mobile, and a ladies' Mystic Society of Mobile. She was a charter member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was devoted to her faith and her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. Arata, Sr.; parents, Delia Gazelle Jacobs and John Habeeb Jacobs; daughter, Nettie A. Ahmadi; brothers, George and Jake Jacobs; and sister, Mabel J. LeClair. Mrs. Arata is survived by her sons, John J. Arata, Sr. (Pam) and Peter J. Arata, Jr. (Ruth); daughter, Mary A. Lilley; son-in-law, Dr. Timothy P. Ahmadi (Elaine); sisters, Badia Jacobs of Los Angeles, CA and Polly J. Moyd of Fairhope; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of MidSouth Home Health and Covenant Hospice for their loving care.

The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the mass. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or St. Mary's Home, 4350 Moffett Rd., Mobile, AL 36618. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
