W. S. Jayne, director in the Ridgely-Farmers bank, and for many years the auditor in the Farmers' bank, died at St. John's hospital at 11:50 o'clock last night of pneumonia at the age of 68 years. Mr. Jayne was the son of the late Dr. William Jayne, one of the pioneers of central Illinois and was born in the old Jayne homestead at Fourth and Jefferson streets, now the site of the Arion hall. Mr. Jayne had resided at Fifth and Enos streets for many years.

He was born on October 18, 1851, and was married in 1875 to Margaret Palmer, daughter of Gen. John M. Palmer. Mrs. Jayne has been dead seventeen years. Surviving are four children, Perry, Louis and Margaret Jayne, and Mrs. George Fish, wife of the county treasurer. Also two grand children, William Louis and Margaret Ellen Jayne.

Mr. Jayne retired from active business life a year ago at the time of the consolidation of the Ridgely bank and the Farmers' bank. He had been auditor of the Farmers' bank since its organization, but because of his age, did not care to take an active part in the management of the combined banks.
