Horatio Jenkins Jr, whose residence was in Chelsea MA, when a 23-year-old Law Student enlisted on 4/19/1861 as a Private. On 5/1/1861 he mustered into "I" Co. MA 5th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 7/31/1861 at Boston, MA. On 9/5/1862 he was commissioned into "G" Co. MA 40th Infantry. He was listed as a POW on 5/16/1864 at Drewry's Bluff, VA (confined at Macon, GA & Columbia, SC), escaped prison at Columbia, SC and rejoined Regiment. Later he was discharged on 2/18/1865. On 3/12/1865 he was commissioned into Field & Staff MA 4th Cavalry. he was listed as wounded on 4/6/1865 at High Bridge, VA. He Mustered Out on 11/14/1865 at Richmond, VA.
