Laurene (Jensen) Berg-Ogston, 91, of Wenatchee, WA, died Friday, July 5, 2013. She was born in Wenatchee, January 29, 1922, to James and Elsie Jensen. Laurene (“Laurie”) had lived in the Wenatchee Valley most of her life, attending schools in East Wenatchee and graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1939, a member of the Honor Society. She was named East Wenatchee Apple Blossom Princess in 1939. After graduation, she began her career working in the office at Wells & Wade. During WWII, she traveled to Los Angeles and Denver for work and to volunteer at the USO. While in Denver, she met and married Jean P. Berg, a Lieutenant in the Army-Air Corps, in December 1945, then moved to Kansas City, MO, Jean’s home. Their first daughter, Melody, was born a year later. Laurene talked her husband into moving to Wenatchee in 1947. Two children were born here; daughter, Shari Teresa, and son, Terry Alan. When their children were in school, she returned to work, first as bookkeeper for Kane Bros. Concrete, then The Fashion Shop and Eye & Ear Clinic/Hospital. Shari died in October 1967, after a long battle with cancer. During the years of retirement, they loved to travel in their motorhome, sometimes taking a grandchild with them. Jean passed away in 1986. In 1997, she married Roland G. Ogston, an Alcoa friend of Jean’s. They moved to Roland’s home in Vancouver, WA, where they loved to attend jazz performances and dine at fine restaurants. Laurie sang at two of these restaurants, entertaining other patrons. They returned to Wenatchee in 2007, moving into Columbia Heights Retirement Community. Roland passed away in December 2008. At the time of her death, Laurene was living at Blossom Valley Assisted Living Residence. Her family wishes to thank the staff for their loving care and attention. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a brother, Jim Jensen; and her daughter, Shari. Survivors include her daughter, Melody Neidhart of Wenatchee; son, Terry Berg of East Wenatchee; brothers, Martin Jensen of Seattle and Marlin Jensen of North Bend, WA; a sister, Evelyn Marr of Wenatchee; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
