Lifelong Anchorage resident Donald Victor Johnson, 77, died Aug. 2, 1996, at Providence Extended Care Center. In keeping with his wishes, there was no service. His ashes were buried in the Pioneer Section of Anchorage Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Anchorage and graduated from Anchorage High School in 1936. He attended the University of Washington and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 in the European Theater, receiving three decorations and attaining the rank of major. A purchasing agent for Morrison Knudsen Corp. in Anchorage, Mr. Johnson was also co-owner with his wife,Olive, of Wiona's Gift Shop. He was a member of Pioneers of Alaska, and a life member of the Anchorage Elks Club. He enjoyed sports and gardening and will be remembered and loved by his family for his humor, generosity and quick mind. He loved Alaska and seeing his grandchildren growing up here.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, D. Douglas and Heather; grandchildren, Austin and Grace; and brother John, all of Anchorage; and sister, Elizabeth Gahnberg of Seattle. Cremation arrangements were handled by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
