Eagle River resident Clifford Yoland "Hootkey" Johnson, 64, died April 25, 2005, of lung cancer at Alaska Native Medical Center. His daughter Ginger was at his side. Visitation was at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel. A graveside service was held at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 3, 1940 in Nelson Lagoon to Arthur and Nina Johnson. He was home-schooled and had a ninth-grade education. His family wrote: "He was a very talented man. He was a pilot and used his personal aircraft to deliver mail and supplies to villages. He was known for his professional talents and making his deliveries always with a smile, with God by his side. Clifford also worked with Peter Pan Seafoods. He enjoyed flying, commercial fishing, taking walks and picking flowers with his grandchildren Trisha, Samantha and Woo Woo." "My dad will be missed greatly by all who knew him," his daughter Ginger said. "I was very close to my father, and loved him heart and soul. His 41/2-year-old grandson Woo spent everyday of his life with his grandpa. He also helped him through his last couple of months. We will all miss his conversations, love and laughter over our morning coffee." His grandson Woo said, "I will miss my little grandpa. I love him with all my heart." Pat Kowalski said, "I will miss my best friend and ex-husband dearly."
Mr. Johnson is survived by his mother, Nina Orloff; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger Andrews-McCormick and Everett McCormick; sons and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Johnson, Clifford Johnson Jr. and Russell Johnson; brother, Artie Johnson; sisters, Sandy Johnson and Donna Wilson; and grandchildren, J.J., Chris, Preston, Charlie, Dewey, Missy, Amber, Josh, Trisha, Samantha, David and Cruz "Woo Woo."
