Bristol served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner (DD-692), U.S. Navy during World War II.
He resided in North Carolina prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Navy on September 10, 1943 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner was in the Lingayen Gulf to support minesweeping operations. At about noon they came under attack by Japanese kamikazes. One of the kamikazes crashed into the Sumner near the after stack and after torpedo mount.
The Sumner lost 14 men Killed or Missing In Action and 19 injured of which two later died of their wounds.
Bristol was one of the 14 crewman "Killed In Action" in this attack during the war.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Bristol was buried at sea.
