Longtime Alaska resident Arthur Frederick Johnson, 66, died Jan. 13 of multiple myeloma at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. A service was held Jan. 20 at First United Methodist Church in Wasilla with the Rev. Linda Jean Meyers officiating. Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Chicago. He grew up in Siren, Wis., and graduated from high school there. He attended the University of Wisconsin for one year and the Northwest Institute of Technology in Minneapolis for a year. He served three years with the U.S. Navy, two of which he spent in Guam. He was trained by the Navy as a frogman. Mr. Johnson came to Alaska in June 1964. He lived in Anchorage for 20 years before moving to Wasilla in 1983. From 1965 to 1969, he had a partnership in CR Electronics in Anchorage. From 1968 to 1979, he owned Executone Far North Inc. in Anchorage. After he sold that business and moved to the Valley, he bought Delta Drilling in 1983. In 1987, he established Knik Electronics. Mr. Johnson was a charter member of First United Methodist Church in Wasilla. He was also a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association, American Association of Retired Persons, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to fish for salmon, both in the ocean and rivers of Alaska. He also enjoyed reading, golf, bridge and following the stock market. His family said, "He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. His family was very important to him. He was very proud of his four sons and their families." Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Jean of Wasilla; sons and daughters- in-law, Steven and Karen; Robert; James and Ellen; and Brian and Liisa; and his grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer; Carly, Nicole, Steffanie, Natalie, Arthur and Sidney. Memorial donations may be sent to the First United Methodist Church building fund, 1980 Black Bear Drive, Wasilla 99654.
