Carol was born March 14, 1927, in Princeton, Minnesota. She was the youngest of four siblings. Carol originally came to Alaska in 1936 with her parents. She returned to Alaska with her sister, Evelyn, as an adult in 1947. Carol met and then married Clyde Johns on Jan 31, 1948, and they continued on as true pioneers.
Her family wrote: "Carol not only loved Alaska history, but was a vital part of that history. Carol was a kind, sweet and independent soul who will be missed by all who knew her. She was generous throughout her life, donating to charities, loving animals and always willing to help others. Carol spent her last years with friends and family in Anchorage, who helped her remain as independent as possible."
Carol is survived by her two sons, James W Johnson, of Anchorage and Alvie Johnson of Wasilla; two grandchildren, Timothy Johnson and Joseph Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Haley, Tomhera and Peyton.
