Earle served as a Machinist's Mate, First Class, U.S.S. Gwin (DD-433), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

The Gwin, during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, took a shell hit in her engine room and another shell struck her fantail.

Earle was "Killed In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the "Navy Cross" and the Purple Heart.

He was buried at sea.

The Gwen survived the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal but was later sunk at the Battle of Kolombangara on July 13, 1943.

Gwin received five battle stars for service in World War II.
