She then married and followed her husband Rex, through his career as an educator. She spent the next fifty years living in the Mesilla Valley and Las Cruces, N.M. During this period she began a calling as an artist, working in the media of oil and eventually china painting. Her artwork was displayed in the capitol building in Santa Fe, won many awards, and eventually had a one-woman show in the Branigan Library. She helped found the Sew and Sew Club and taught painting at Munson Senior Citizen Center in Las Cruces.
She was survived by her daughter, Rexanna Bell Anderson and son-in-law Richard.
A graveside service was held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Marcus Burr of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
