According to records on fold3, he was absent sick and absent wounded over the course of 3 years and transferred to the Invalid Corps. He was recorded as being in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in early 1864. Rome, Ga., is very near Chattanooga. Perhaps he was working as a nurse or guard while in the Invalid Corps.
