Boyd was born in Parris Island, North Carolina, as his father was serving in the Marines.
Sgt Boyd waived his rotation assignment to stay in Vietnam and took a 30 day leave to go home. Completing his 30 day his leave Boyd left for Vietnam and arrived there 26 November 1967, where
he was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He died as a result of hostile gunshot wounds to the body, during Operation Badger Tooth in the vicinity of Thon Tham on the coast and13 kilometers east northeast of Hai Lang.
Sgt Boyd served his country for 4 years.
Survived by his wife, Susanne W Jones of Box 1011, Atlanta, Georgia and his parents; William A and Sara B Jones and his 2 brothers, Russell "Rusty" and Walter Boyd of Apt D-2, 2263 Corona Way, Atlanta, Georgia.
