Beulah Almira Jones, a resident of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on January 15, 2013.

She was born on February 21, 1925 in Sylacauga, Alabama to the late Alvin Eugene Morris and Margaret Labelle Douglas & was the fourth of 10 children.

She was married to the late Lawrence Jones. To this union, two children were born.

Beulah was preceded in death by her father and mother; her daughter Caroline Margaret who died in infancy; brother Hugh Douglas Morris; sisters Eleanor Elizabeth Morris Battle, Merion Labelle Harvey White & Margaret Ann Harvey Woodson.

A very religious woman, Beulah would start each day by reading and studying the Bible. She was a "prayer warrior," praying for the welfare of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends on a daily basis. As a fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist she inherited that legacy of faith and trust.

Her great-grandparents A C & Margaret Ann Chatman accepted the Seventh-day Adventist message before 1899, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1904, after meeting with Ellen G White, they responded to her plea to go south and help spread the gospel among the African American community. It was through this work that the SDA message was introduced to and passed down to her mother Margaret.

Beulah's mother was educated at the Steele School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The school founder, Almira Steele, made such an impression on her mother that Beulah was named after her. Beulah's uncanny ability to recall childhood events and pass on stories told to her by her mother and grandmother helped to lead the Morris-Harvey family on a journey to trace and discover their family roots. Without her memory, many details and names would have been lost.

On the property in Sylacauga where Beulah was born once stood a school that was dedicated to educating African American children in the reconstruction era. The land on which this "Juniata School" was formed was later sold to her grandmother. Some of her fondest memories from childhood included adventures on that property where her uncle farmed and grandmother cooked fresh vegetables and fruit harvested from the land. Beulah passed on many stories about the experiences of her and her sibling's during those early years.

She spent her late teen years in Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated from John Hay Vocational High School. She obtained her Associate Degree from Cuyahoga County Community College.

An avid believer in education, she returned to Tennessee State University in her 70s to pursue her Bachelor's Degree. Throughout her life she served dutifully as a nurse, and was last employed at Bordeaux Long-Term Care in Nashville.

Beulah was a member of the Glenville SDA Church in Cleveland, Ohio under the leadership of Pastor Joseph H Laurence. In later years she moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she was a member of the Oakwood University Church under the guidance of Pastor E C Ward. From Huntsville, she moved with her daughter's family to the Nashville area and began attending Madison Campus Church.

Beulah had many hobbies: she was a lover of music, playing the piano for many hours; she was an enthusiastic Mickey Mouse collector; she cherished books and was an avid reader; she enjoyed relaxing with family, friends and watching her granddaughters play video games.

Left to cherish the memories of Beulah are a daughter; 2 granddaughters; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; & a host of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, god-children, and dog Sparky.

A Life Celebration service will be held on January 21, 2013 at 11:00am at the Madison Campus Church of Seventh Day Adventist in Madison, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Hendersonville Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm and then on Monday at the church for an hour starting at 10:00am.

Interment is in Hendersonville Memorial Gardens.
