Doris Jones Bailey, 85, of Marietta, Georgia, died February 27, 2009 from complications of renal failure. She was born September 5, 1923 in rural Elbert County, Georgia to Amos and Kate McCall Jones. She attended Reinhardt Junior College and West Georgia College before moving to Greenville, South Carolina during World War II. In 1948, she moved to Marietta when she married her late husband, J. C. (Jake) Bailey. She retired in 1988 from the Cobb County Tag Office, where she worked for twelve years. Prior to her employment with the County, she was employed at Office Sales & Service, McLauren, and W. P. Stephens Lumber Company. She was a member of GracePointe Marietta, having previously been a member of Crestview Baptist Church and Rose Lane Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member of the choir.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gayle & Rob Suggs; granddaughter Sally Suggs; grandson Robert Suggs, all of Chamblee; brothers B. Allen Jones of Franklin, VA, Dr. Jack E. Jones of Baton Rouge, LA and Bobby M. Jones of Elberton, GA; sisters Velma J. Grizzle of Fort Mill, SC, Faye J. Vermilya of Chamblee, and Jimmie Nelle J. Richardson of Myrtle Beach, SC; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her brother William Bailey Jones.

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. Interment followed at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to GracePointe Marietta Church, 505 Atlanta, Street in Marietta. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta, Georgia in charge of arrangements.
