Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fairhaven with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial followed at the Fairhaven Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Roland and his wife Betty of Clearwater, Robert Jurgens and his significant other Cindy Lincoln of South Haven, Kathleen and husband Darrel Kotila of Litchfield and Susan Froelich of Fargo, N.D.; sisters, Bernice Carsten of Glenwood and Jeanette Rohloff of Buffalo; grandchildren, Shannon, Stacy, Stephanie, Corinne, Crystal, Catherine, Jennifer, Candace, Daniel, Rachael, Matthew and Heather; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Jack, Delainy, Sawyer, Hayden, Gunner, Gretta, Gillda, Jayante, Quinten, Kyza, Kailee, Preston, Wesley and Isabelle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertie and George; sisters, Augusta Anderson and Pearl Elwood; and brothers, Donald and Clinton Jurgens.
George Roger Jurgens was born June 9, 1931, in Grove Lake to George and Gertie (Forney) Jurgens. George was baptized on Aug. 2, 1931, and confirmed on Sept. 12, 1944. On July 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Martha Hillstrom at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fairhaven. George worked as a milk truck driver before becoming self employed as a dairy farmer. After retiring from the dairy farm, George bought Belgian horses and loved working with them, often giving sleigh and hay rides. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and a former member of the Fairhaven Lion's Club. George served as a Sunday school teacher, was on the church council, served on the local school board and served as the Fairhaven Township Supervisor.
