Penny Kaye Barnes was born on March 28, 1932 in St. Paul, Minn., to Henry and Laura (Forbes) Kaye. Penny graduated from St. Paul Central High School and continued her education at Rasmussen School of Business in St. Paul.
Penny married Jim Barnes at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Paul and to this union four children were born: Mary Pat, Keen, Tom and Mike. Penny worked first at Brown and Bigelow Publishing Co. and later at Lyngblomsten Care Center as a nursing assistant.
Penny passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at her home in Pine City. She was 79 years old. Penny is survived by children: Mary Pat (Mike) of Shoreview, Keen Barnes of Pine City, Tom (Darcy) Barnes of Pine City, Mike (Theresa) Barnes of Wisconsin; grandchildren: Chris, Pat, Megan, Molly, Bobby, Julie, Jeff, Josh, James, Laura and Kate; great-grandchildren: Jared, Jordon and Desirae; as well as many relatives and special friends.
Penny was preceded in death by her husband Jim; parents Henry and Laura Kaye; two brothers: Charles and Thomas Kaye; and special Aunt Katharine Forbes.
Penny was known for her kindness and zeal for life.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Pine City with celebrant Msgr. Aleksander Suchan celebrating the mass. Music was provided by Kevin and Joanne Cahill. Casketbearers were her grandchildren: Chris Cheney, Pat Cheney, Josh Barnes, James Barnes, Jared Stevens, Jordon Stevens, and Robert Neil.
Interment was in the Birchwood Cemetery of Pine City. Arrangements were with the Funeral and Cremation Service - Swanson Chapel of Pine City.
