Janie Jewell Keese was born July 5, 1914, at Ranger Branch, Texas, located between Georgetown and Weir, the ninth and last child of William Jefferson and Lou Ella (Terry). She died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in the Round Rock Hospital.

Her parents and their six oldest children moved to Williamson County from Burieson County in about 1907. They settled at Ranger Branch where the three youngest children were born. After moving south of Weir, Jewell's mother died in the influenza epidemic when Jewell was four years old. The family next moved into the town of Weir. Jewell attended Weir School for her education. She joined the Weir Methodist Church where her membership remained until the church closed.

Jewell married Delma Stone on January 8, 1934, in the Keese home in Weir. Jewell and Delma made their home in the Weir area and were engaged in farming. Their only child, a girl, died at birth March 29, 1938. Delma died November 26, 1952, at home and was buried in the Weir Cemetery. Jewell then lived as a companion and housekeeper for a widow, Mrs. Virgil Morelle, in Georgetown.

Jewell married Felix Preston Bohanan on October 30, 1958, in the First Baptist Church of Georgetown with Rev. Robert E. Mitchell officiating. She and Felix were involved in dairy farming near Liberty Hill, and later south of Georgetown. In the mid 1960's they moved to College Street in Georgetown. Felix became a charter member of Main Street Baptist Church, and they were both blessed by its ministry. In December 2001, they entered River Haven Nursing Home after Felix suffered a stroke and Jewell suffered a hip fracture. Felix died December 31, 2001, and was buried the Whitely Cemetery near Georgetown.

Continuing to live at River Haven, Jewell took an active part in many of the activities, appreciated the ministry provided by various denominations, loved all of the residents, and tried to brighten the day of each one by her cheerful demeanor. Although Jewell faced many challenges, her faith in God never faltered.

In addition to her husbands, Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Bertha Walker, Arthur Keese, Lonnie Keese, Lela Collinsworth, Lillian Reeves, Berry, Myrtle Stone,Charence Keese, and Ruby Ford.

She is survived by eight nieces and five nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Delma's sister Jennie Butler, and Felix's sister Ruth Chandler and brother Thomeas Bohanan.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 12th at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. Funeral services were Saturday, May 13th in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Logan Cummings officiating. Interment followed at Weir Cemetery in Weir, Texas. [Based on an obituary published 14 May 2006 in The Williamson County Sun.]
