He had seven sons; his third son being Samuel Jr., born in September 2, 1801, in Seneca County, New York. He adopted his father's occupation--farming. He had a tract of land in his native county, which he operated a few years, selling it in 1829 when he decided to come to this State. He selected Novi Twp in this county, as his future place of residence and bought 290 acres on section 29. He remained there permanently, dying in May 1888.
In 1828 Samuel Blackwood Jr. was married to Jane, dau of David and Mary (Lowrie) Elliott, natives of Virginia. She was born in Orange County, NY about 1810 and was the eldest dau of third child of the parents. She died in 1846. She had borne six sons and two daughters, four of whom are now living.
In 1848 Mr. Blackwood married Mary J. Ewing, dau of John Ewing, of Commerce Township. This union was blessed by the birth of five sons and three daughters, and five of the number survive. Ms. Mary Blackwood died soon after her husband.
