Rev. L. M. Keneston Dies At Age of 86
Held Pastorates in West Brattleboro, Other Places

Rev. Luther Martin Keneston, 86 of South Danbury, N. H., a former pastor of the First Congregational church, West Brattleboro, died Tuesday night about 11 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jesse C. Johnson of 16 Forest street.

Ill since last spring, Rev. Mr. Keneston came last May to the home of his daughter to be cared for. He had been confined to his bed most of the time since then. He resigned in June as pastor of the South Danbury Christian
church.

Funeral services will be held at the South Danbury Christian church Friday at 1:30 p. m. The body may be viewed at Rohde's funeral home tomorrow afternoon or evening.

He was born in Wilmot, N. H., Aug. 21, 1856, one of five children of Benjamin C. and Lucy (Buck) Keneston. He was educated at New London Academy and took special courses at Yale University. He married Mary Alice Philbrick of East Andover, N. H., May 38, 1879. She died in Woodbridge, Conn., May 27, 1926 in an automobile accident.

Rev. Mr. Keneston taught school while studying for the ministry serving as principal of Goffstown, N. H. high school with his wife as lady principal. He was ordained at the New Boston, N. H. Presbyterian church Jan. 10, 1889. In 1892 he went to Shelton, Conn., to become pastor of a newly-organized church of 35 members. During his eight-year pastorate there the membership was increased to 200 and a church and parsonage were built. In December, 1900, he came to the First Congregational church, West Brattleboro, remaining there eight and a half years.

He left here to serve a parish in Baldwinsville, Mass. He also had pastorates in Ashburnham, Mass., Preston, Huntington and Woodbury, Conn.

He had served the South Danbury church the past 15 years.

Rev. M. Keneston spoke several languages. He was a 32d degree Mason and a member of the Odd Fellows.

He leaves one daughter and one son, Caroline M., wife of Jesse C. Johnson of this town, and Shelton E. Keneston, equipment engineer for the General Cable Co., with his office in Perth Amboy, N. J. He also leaves one sister,
Mrs. W. D. Wells of West Andover, N. H. and two granddaughters, Jean H. Keneston, social service worker in Houlton, Me., and Carolyn M. student at Temple university, Philadelphia.
