Janice (Kennedy) Bernard of Beverly, an instructor and chairwoman of the secretarial science and computer science department at Marion Court College, died of cancer Tuesday in North Shore Rehabilitation Center in Danvers. She was 44.

Born in Lynn, Mrs. Bernard graduated from Marion Court College and Salem State College.

She had been an instructor at Marion Court College in Swampscott for 23 years.

She leaves her husband, Joseph L.; a son, Christopher, and a daughter, Valerie, all of Beverly; her mother, Christine A. (MacLellan) Kennedy of Lynnfield; four brothers, Donald J. Kennedy of Miami, Fla., John N. Kennedy of Ossipee, N.H., Thomas W. Kennedy of Londonderry, N.H., and Leon D. Kennedy of Danvers; and a sister, Mary K. (Dot) Mann of Danvers.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Beverly. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Beverly.
