Elaine Douglass Allen, 90, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013. Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Baptist Church, her church home for nearly 60 years. Interment: 3 p.m. Friday in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Elaine grew up in Natchitoches, La., the daughter of math professor C.G. Killen. After earning her master's degree from North Texas State University in Denton, she pursued a career as a choral music teacher at Alice Carlson Elementary and Monnig Middle schools in Fort Worth. She was married to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary professor and Fort Worth Star-Telegram music critic Dr. Robert S. Douglass for 36 years until his death in 1987. They had two children, Robert K. Douglass of Minnesota and Melanie E. Brooks of Azle. In 1992 she married former Broadway Baptist Church pastor Dr. J.P. Allen, with whom she shared 10 years of marriage until his death in 2002. Elaine enjoyed traveling, the arts and being with her family. Never was there a more loving and generous person. She was a class act. Survivors: In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Cody Brooks of Denton and Summer Gilliland and husband, Shea, of Dallas.
