Albert E. (Al) King, Jr., age 78, died peacefully after a lengthy illness on September 23, 2011 in Hospice HomeCare, Little Rock. Al was born September 8, 1933 in Jonesboro to the late Beulah Faye and A. E. (Duck) King, Sr. He was also predeceased by an infant sister, Faye Bernice King, and step-mother, Bernice Webb King. He served in the U.S. Army, attended the U of A, was past president of the board of directors of the Garland County Association for Drug Abuse Education, past president of the Kiwanis Club and a member of the Sunshine Church of the Nazarene, Pearcy. He joined his father as an estimator and partner in C & B Construction Company and Pharoah Construction Company. He built commercial buildings in Arkansas and Louisiana. His specialty was hospitals, schools and banks. One of his proudest constructions was the First Federal Building at the intersection of Central and Ouachita in downtown Hot Springs. He was devoted to his family. He was always interested in the tiniest of accomplishments of his daughters. That interest carried over ten-fold with the birth of his only grandchild, his much adored granddaughter, Hayley. He will be remembered as an honest man, a faithful husband, a devoted father, a supportive father-in-law, a good son and brother and the worlds best Paw Paw. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Taylor King; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann and Michael Henley of Jacksonville, AR and Phyllis Jean (P.J.) and Dennis Hodges of Little Rock, AR; granddaughter, Hayley Henley of Jacksonville, AR; sister, Gloria Jean (Jeannie) King of Hot Springs; step-grandchildren, Marie (Jeremy) Shapley and Brian Henley and step-great-granddaughter, Gillian Shapley. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Monday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Rev. Ken Stallings, cousin and senior minister of Forest Home Church of the Nazarene, Jonesboro and Rev. J.B. Evans, senior minister of Sunshine Church of the Nazarene, Pearcy will officiate. A private family burial will precede the service. Pallbearers are Michael Henley, Dennis Hodges, Glenn Reynolds, Dr. I. David Rogers, Don Fulenwider and Jim Randall. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Nizar Suleman, Dr. Scott Anderson, Dr. Fred Divers, Dr. Fred Heinemann, Dr. Dow Stough, Charlie Brenner, Jim Latture and the staff of Arkansas Hospice of Hot Springs. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nizar Suleman. We are grateful not only for his extraordinary medical care, but for his friendship and compassion to our family. We also extend personal thanks to special friends Jeanne Gardner, Faye Palsgrove and many other caring friends.
