Mrs. Abbie Burkhalter, a former resident of Frankfort, was fatally injured at Michigan avenue and Thirteenth street in Chicago early Saturday morning when she was struck by one taxi cab and run over by another. She was rushed to St. Luke's hospital following the tragic accident and died three hours later....
Mrs. Burkhalter was a former wife of Harry Burkhalter of this city and for some time has been employed in a Chicago department store. Her maiden name was Abbie Knappenberger, and she was the daughter of Eli and Elmina Knappenberger. Mrs. Burkhalter was born in Washington township 35 years ago. She was a member of St. Luke's church, northwest of the city, and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends.
Surviving are her father, Eli Knappenberger and a son, Cletus Burkhalter of this city, and the following brothers and sisters: Alfred K. Knappenberger of Jackson township; John Knappenberger, who resides east of Kilmore in Union township; Mrs. Anna Snyder of Mulberry; Mrs. Flora Brown of Ross township, and Mrs. Otto Burns of Shelbyville.
The body was taken to the home of her sister in Mulberry Saturday night, where it will rest until the time of the funeral. Arrangements for funeral services had not been completed Saturday night.
