Kathryn E. Alexander spent nearly 30 years as as educator in the Maple Heights School System and lived 53 years of her life in Bedford. She died August 8 after a short illness.

Born Kathryn Knappenberger on March 18, 1914 in South Euclid, Mrs. Alexander graduated from Brush High School in 1931 and received her bachelor of arts dgree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1935. That fall, she began her employment as the assistant librarian of the Maple Heights library.
On December 28, 1936, she married Rodger Alexander, a teacher at the Broadway School. Her husband was a teacher and the guidance director and senior class advisor at Bedford High School until his death in 1962.

Mrs. Alexander received her degree in library science from Western Reserve University in 1952. She returned to her position and became head librarian of Maple Heights Junior High School when it opened in 1957. She remained in that position until her retirement in 1975. She remained active in many library activities after her retirement. An inveterate bridge player, she was a member of a number of bridge clubs in the area.
Despite her strong ties to friend and neighbors in the Bedford community, travel remained an important passion in her life and she had planned a trip through Colonial America for this fall.
Baptized into the Methodist Church in 1915, Mrs. Alexander was a member of the First Methodist Church of Bedford. Services were conducted by the Associate Pastor, Annette Dimond, at the Johnson Funeral Home August 11. The body was interred at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Bedford Heights. Mrs. Alexander was survived by her two sons, David Michael and James Rodger and two grandchildren, Pamela Jean and Christopher Michael. (Bedford Times-Register, Thurs.Aug.18, 1988.)
